- Urumqi is the Capital of Xijiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it is located at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountain and the southern rim of Junggar Basin, with an elevation between 680 and 920 meters. It covers a total area of 12,000 square kilometers including 82 square kilometers of urban area with a total population of 1.48 million.
